Competition Rules
- Competition will be governed by RSOBHD and ScotDance USA rules.
- All dancers must have a valid Scotdance or RSOBHD registration number to enter. A valid 2025 card is required to compete and receive awards.
- Change in classification must be received by July 15, 2025.
- Pre-Premier cards will be collected at Registration.
- This is a non-refundable entry.
- Organizers reserve the right to cancel, split or combine, add events or makes changes within the RSOBHD rules.
- Competitors will dance in reverse order of entry.
- All competitors are expected to comply with ScotDance USA Code of Ethics.
- Any dancer causing delay will forfeit entry in any event.
- Any attempt to approach a judge or piper on behalf of a competitor may result in disqualification.
- Dancers must be in competition dress to accept all awards.
- Decisions of the judge are final. Protests must be made in writing and submitted to the Executive Secretary with a fee of $5.00 before the end of the competition. Fee will be returned if protest is sustained.
- All dances count toward aggregate trophies except for the choreography.
- Aggregate trophy is awarded to the dancer in their class and age category with the highest points.
- Premier Under 12 and Pre-Premier dancers will receive medals for 1st through 6th places. Premier classes 12 and older will receive cash awards and medals. Aggregate trophies are based on the number of dancers and age groups. Distribution of prize money will be awarded in oldest Premier age group.
- Premier age groups will be based on total number of registrations.
- Aggregate trophies are based on the number of dancers and age groups.
- Competitor numbers will be issued at registration.
- Recorded music from Donald McPhee will be used in lieu of a piper.
- Grand Canyon Trophy choreography is open to Premier dancers in both solo and duet.
- Special choreography music must be to “This is your Fight Song” by either Rachel Platten’ or the Scottish version by the Piano Guys. Choreography must be at least 2 min 30 sec in length but doesn't require the complete length of either music option which ranges from 3 to 4 min. Both versions will be available by the competition committee. Prior notification of preferred version will be required.
- Arizona Novice dancer of the day, "Flora’s Fancy" will be a dance off to Highland Fling. Trophy sponsored by Diana Spellman in honor of the Girl Scouts.
- Most Promising Dancer will be awarded in the Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate categories. These cash awards are sponsored by the Arizona Highland Dancing Association (AZHDA) and will be judges choice.
Photographs and videos taken by parents/friends must be limited to your own dancer unless you are given permission from the dancer’s parent/legal guardian.
